Brixham’s Iconic Restaurant Serves Up A Treat
EVERYONE knows that fish and chips is Britain’s traditional dish, but how many know that during the First and Second World Wars, they were one of the very few meals not subject to rationing.
The governments of the day in 1914 and 1939 decided to make fish and chips a protected species to boost wartime morale – and that only served to increase its popularity once the hostilities had ended.
What we don’t know is how much those government decisions helped towards Britain’s victories in those two conflicts.
 

 
Whatever the answer to that conundrum, it was no surprise that on our visit to Rockfish restaurant in Brixham, Devon, my partner patriotically chose fish and chips straightaway as his main course.
