As a contributor to every issue of this fine publication since it was created, I was slightly surprised recently that a part of international trade that hardly anyone got excited about, suddenly appeared across all the TV channels and on the front of my newspapers.
Suddenly my escapes from work thoughts were bombarding me with even more. So I thought I would cut through all of the noise (as you apparently say?!) and share my understanding of what is happening globally.
So let’s start at my very beginning……. 40 years ago import duties and tariffs were already in existence – they were not discovered by mass media or Donald Trump a few months ago. They were developed to protect countries manufacturing and services from often unfair global competition and preserve and create jobs and opportunities. Economic sense?
