This year is likely to be a pivotal one for the country, and in particular, the North of England. As we navigate a post-Covid and post-Brexit era, resources will have to be allocated carefully in order to support a buoyant economic recovery for the economy and levelling up will remain crucial to ensuring that all parts of the country can fuel growth.
It’s clear that the North has a central role to play in meeting the ambitions set out in the the UK Government’s ten-point plan to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
A Net Zero North not only has the potential to support the nation’s economic recovery but to reach these critical environmental targets as well. As a region, the North already generates 40% of the nation’s electricity, so we are well-placed to take advantage of innovations in renewable energy and lead the way to net zero.
